WWG launches cross-border Pak-Afghan transit desk

WWG Consolidators (WWGC) has launched a dedicated cross-border Pak-Afghan transit desk to help move goods between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The decision to launch the transit desk came after the Pakistan government announced the establishment of state-of-the-art transit facilities at the border with Torkham and Chaman in Afghanistan, and Wagah in India, under the Integrated Transit Trade Management Systems (ITTMS) project.

The ITTMS project was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council in Autumn 2015 and is being executed under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation-Regional Improving Border Services (CAREC-RIBS).

WWGC is The Waco System member for Pakistan, and Waco executive director Richard Charles says Afghanistan and Pakistan have rapidly growing economies and tremendous business opportunities.

He says: “We are extremely proud of, and excited for, WWG Consolidators. It shows how innovative and forward thinking our members are, and brings new business opportunities not only for fellow WACO members but independent forwarders worldwide.”

WWGC has made an agreement with a cross-border transit operator, whose offices are located at the borders as well as in Kabul, Kandahar and Mazar-e-Shareef with a dedicated bonded fleet.

WWG general manager of supply chain & inbound logistics, Jahangir Raza says: “The Afghan transit trail is becoming increasingly important especially taking into account the country’s ongoing major rehabilitation and rebuilding projects.”

He admits it is a challenging task in a war-torn country like Afghanistan but believes it has great business potential.
