Lufthansa and United Airlines plan to enhance their cooperation to include cargo operations on routes between the US and Europe.

The airlines are discussing the cooperation to create a more efficient and comprehensive transatlantic network with more choice for cargo customers. They are discussing possible elements of cooperation including information technology services and facilities. The cooperation between United and Lufthansa is subject to finalisation of the commercial arrangement and compliance with existing European Union and US regulations and necessary government approvals.

Both carriers have been expanding with joint ventures. In December 2014 Lufthansa Cargo started joint sales of shipments with Japanese carrier, All Nippon Airways initially from Japan to Europe before being offered on Europe to Japan services from August 2015. In April 2015, United Cargo was granted anti-trust immunity for a joint venture with All Nippon Airways on trans-Pacific routes.
