Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (HACTL) has claimed an 11.5 per cent rise overall in cargo through its SuperTerminal 1 during the first six months of this year, compared to 2013.

The figures released by HACTL show a leap in transshipments of 34.2 per cent from 48,317 tonnes during January to June last year to 64,849 for the same period this year. The other double-digit rise is imports with a 13.6 per cent year-on-year growth to 243,287 tonnes. Exports then comein at 8.8 per cent.

The HACTL figures do not include last year’s Cathay Pacific Airways data, when that airline was based at the terminal. HATCL chief executive, Mark Whitehead, says: “The growth in our transshipments traffic – while currently still the smallest part of our business – is very interesting, as it reflects the continuing development of Hong Kong.” He also suggests that the transshipments rise maybe linked to HACTL’s Hacis, which provides scheduled road feeders into and out of mainland China.

The January to June figures show a slightly lower rise than the 13 per cent increase for the first five months of 2014, compared to 2013, which Whitehead told Air Cargo Week about in June.
