Cargo tonnage at Abu Dhabi International Airport fell year-on-year (YOY) by 3.7 per cent in July, as it too has been slightly affected by the slowdown in the Middle East region.

Last month, the gateway handled 66,355 tonnes, which was down on the 68,888 tonnes that was achieved in the same month last year.

For the first seven months of 2016, the gateway has handled 455,547 tonnes, a 5.7 per cent decline on the 483,171 tonnes at the same stage last year.

This week, the Airports Council International (ACI) reported that volumes into airports in the Middle East were up 4.5 per cent in the first half of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015, but said growth was largely fuelled by growing tonnage into Qatar and at Doha International Airport.
