Strong Q1 for tonnage at Munich Airport

Munich Airport has posted strong growth in the first quarter (Q1) of 2017 compared to Q1 last year as cargo tonnage grew at a significant rate.

In the cargo segment, the total airfreight tonnage in the first three months of the year was over 85,000 tonnes – a year-on-year increase of approximately eight per cent.

The number of aircraft movements also increased to around 93,000 and new long-haul routes added to the US, Canada and the Far East help boost cargo tonnage.

In 2016, Munich Airport said airfreight was the strongest growth segment, where the total amount of cargo handled rose by more than five per cent on 2015 to 334,000 tonnes.
