Strong growth continues in July at European airports

Freight traffic across European airports continues to see strong growth with volumes increasing 10.5 per cent year-on-year, Airports Council International (ACI) Europe says.

Non European Union (EU) airports experienced the strongest growth, rising 23.3 per cent while EU hubs were up 8.5 per cent in July.

On a year-to-date (YTD) basis freight was up nine per cent between January and July, with EU airports growing 7.8 per cent and non-EU hubs by 15.8 per cent.

Among Europe’s largest airports Heathrow saw the fastest growth in July, with volumes increasing 15.1 per cent to 143,258 tonnes.

Frankfurt Airport retained its place at the top and grew 4.8 per cent to 178,921 tonnes, followed by Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport with 4.3 per cent growth to 164,239 tonnes and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in third with an increase of 6.5 per cent to 148,761 tonnes.

Frankfurt’s volumes grew 5.6 per cent YTD to 1.2 million, Paris Charles de Gaulle by 2.7 per cent to 1.1 million tonnes, Amsterdam by 8.4 per cent to one million tonnes and Heathrow by 10 per cent to 966,578 tonnes.
