Lufthansa Cargo and the German Red Cross have signed an agreement to work closer on the transport of aid as air cargo in the event of humanitarian disasters.

The German carrier says this put the cooperation on an even more efficiency footing for the future to meet any disasters that may take place.

Lufthansa Cargo chief executive officer and chairman, Peter Gerber (pictured above right), and secretary general of the German Red Cross, Christian Reuter (pictured above left), signed the framework agreement today at Frankfurt Airport.

The cooperation both say will considerably simplify and accelerate the preparation of aid flights, facilitating the provision of effective support and supplies to those in need during crisis situations in which aid is required quickly.

Gerber says: “Thanks to the new cooperation, we will be able to transport German Red Cross aid supplies even faster to disaster zones. When every minute counts, strong partners who can work together optimally are needed.

“We are delighted when we can use our logistics expertise to help get direct assistance to people in need.”

Reuter adds: “As Germany’s largest humanitarian aid organisation, we operate in more than 50 countries. We are really delighted to have Lufthansa Cargo on board, a partner we can rely on in a disaster.”
