Incheon cargo rebounds in November

The volume of international air freight handled at Incheon Airport rose five per cent in November 2017 over same month 2016. The airport, the largest airport in South Korea, saw cargo grow in November by 5.2 per cent to 242,218 tonnes.
An airport statement is pleased this volume offsets “tepid performance last month caused by a decrease of working days during the Chuseok holiday and a reverse base effect led by sluggish performance.” Working days fell from 22.5 in October 2016 to 18 in October 2017.
Year-to-date totals climbed 7.9 per cent compared with last year.
This month’s air freight volume is expected to continue to grow on the back of an increase in semi-conductor and IT traffic as the US and EU economies recover.
There are significant differences in cargo growth between regions served by the airport, says the statement. The largest is south-east Asia at 12.2 per cent, followed by the Americas at 6.9 per cent, Japan at 6.7 per cent, China at 5.8 per cent, Europe at 5.6 per cent and north-east Asia bottom at five per cent.
