HKIA posts robust air cargo growth in September

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded strong year-on-year (YOY) growth of 7.2 per cent in September, handling 394,000 tonnes compared to the same month in 2015.

Transshipments – experienced a 15 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, continued to be the main driver of growth in cargo throughput.

HKIA says traffic to and from key trading regions in North America and South East Asia increased most significantly in September.

During the first nine months of 2016, HKIA cargo traffic increased by 1.2 per cent to 3.2 million tonnes.

On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA handled 4.4 million tonnes of cargo, marking YOY increase of 0.9 per cent.
