Airport operator Fraport has revealed that freight and mail traffic through Frankfurt Main Airport held steady in July, increasing by just 1.1 per cent, year-on-year, to reach 181,459 tonnes.
Not reflecting any significant gain in cargo volumes, aircraft movements at Frankfurt were adversely affected during July by a number of weather-related flight cancellations, a situation that could have had an impact on traffic.
Between January and the end of July, the airport handled 1.24 million tonnes of cargo (freight and mail), representing a slightly more impressive 2.1 per cent rise on the same months of 2013.
Fraport also operates the Peruvian gateway of Jorge Chavez International Airport, an important freight hub for the national capital, Lima. Its cargo traffic rose by 13.5 per cent in July to reach 26,508 tonnes, while over the first seven months of 2013 its cargo volumes increased by 3.9 per cent to reach 157,092 tonnes.
Amongst its many business interests, Fraport operates the airports of Burgas in Bulgaria and Varna in Bulgaria, while it also has an equity stake in gateways in Antalya (Turkey), St Petersburg (Russia), Hanover (Germany) and Xi’an (China).
