Mattar to manage cargo at Gulf Air’s Bahrain hub

Gulf Air is continuing its Bahrainisation programme with the appointment of Wael Mattar as senior manager cargo for its Bahrain hub.

He joined Gulf Air in 1995 as a security and safety supervisor, and will apply experience in sales and at stations across the GCC and Egypt to one of the airline’s main revenue generating departments.

The airline operates an average of 1,000 flights a week, and Mattar will be tasked with further strengthening Gulf Air’s cargo growth globally.

Mattar says: “I feel proud to be assigned in charge of the cargo department as the airline has an opportunity to grow its cargo sales and operations and I am glad the management showed confidence in me to lead this.”

Gulf Air says it is committed to investing in its Bahraini workforce, providing them with opportunities to take over senior management positions.

90% of employees at the Muharraq headquarters and almost 70% of pilots for Gulf Air are Bahraini nationals.
