At least 36 people have been killed and 150 injured following a terrorist attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport.

It is reported that three attackers began shooting inside and outside the terminal before blowing themselves up at 22.00h local time on Tuesday 28 June. No group has come forward to claim responsibility but it is believed Islamic State was behind the attack.

Flights were cancelled following the attack though they have since resumed with a number of cancellations and delays. Carriers including Turkish Airlines have cancelled numerous services to and from Ataturk, while British Airways has cancelled all flights between London Heathrow and Istanbul Ataturk today (Wednesday 29 June).

The airports’s website is presently just displaying flight information due to not being able to cope with traffic.

On 23 December 2015, Istanbul’s other airport; Sabiha Gokcen International Airport was hit by a mortar bomb attack, killing one person. The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons took responsibility for that attack.
